Day 12: Galway with day trip to Aran Islands

Time for another ferry ride!

Our day began early so we could catch the ferry to the nearby Aran Islands, about 45 minutes off the shore of Galway. We went to the most populated island called Inishmore.

Once on the island, we all rushed over to a bike shop to rent a bike for the day. It really was the best way to get around the island!

With everyone on their bikes, we set out as a large herd up the island to the fort. The ride was mostly uphill and there were a few times when it was so steep that I had to get off my bike and walk it for a bit. Of course I was stopping a lot anyway to take pictures! Along the way we had beautiful scenery and I also made friends with a few of the locals . . . well the local animals anyway!

After a couple hours we finally made it back to the town where we had lunch at one of the local pubs. It was great food, although I have no idea if it was actually really good or if I was just so hungry from riding all day that pretty much anything would have tasted amazing! (That's the pub in the background)

After eating I wandered through some of the shops and then down to the little beach, before returning our bikes and gathering at the dock to head back to Galway.

The boat ride back to the mainland was glorious. You want to know why? Because every single one of us fell asleep and it was the best sleep that most of us had had in a while! After we got back to the hotel in Galway, we were given time to get ready for dinner, but of course, per usual, we all got ready really fast and then went to hang out in the lobby where the WiFi was. There was so many of us down there that a lot of us ended up sitting on the tile floor in the lobby or in the hallways just off the lobby!

After about two hours it was finally time for dinner, so we all walked (a very long way) to a pub in town where we had a tasty barbecue! Then we had a free night to relax back at the hotel.

It was a tiring but amazing day and I'm pretty sure we all slept really well that night; I know I did!
